Accession Day on Sunday, February 6 is the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen taking the throne and the Church of England has produced special liturgical resources for use on that day.
A committed Christian, the Queen is Supreme Governor of the Church of England and made the following pledge in 1947, five years before taking on the role she has served for 70 years:
“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service... But I shall not have strength to carry out this resolution alone unless you join in it with me, as I now invite you to do: I know that your support will be unfailingly given. God help me to make good my vow, and God bless all of you who are willing to share in it.”
Her Majesty is also the head of state and the Church of England prays frequently for her work and for her needs; there are various provisions in the Book of Common Prayer and in Common Worship which can be used for this purpose.
In the case of Accession Day, there are authorized resources which may be found here.
Further material will be made available during the Platinum Jubilee year.
