The Diocese of Leeds is pleased to welcome a new president for our Mothers’ Union.
On Saturday, January 22, Wakefield Cathedral hosted the Mothers’ Union Commissioning Service for the new triennium.
Elaine Swinhoe took over as Diocesan President from Jean Thurman, who has successfully guided the organization through the first challenging six years of Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Leeds.
The Venerable Peter Townley, Archdeacon of Pontefract, is to continue as Diocesan Chaplain, with a new group of Trustees and team leaders commissioned by the Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds, at the service as well.
A good congregation of Mothers’ Union members and supporters made it an uplifting service with enthusiastic singing, praying and positive responses.
A warm welcome was given by the cathedral staff to make it an enjoyable event for everyone.
Elaine said: “I would like to give special thanks to the bishop for his encouraging and supportive words to me and to all of us in Mothers’ Union.
“Our theme for the next three years is ‘Transformation – Now’ and we pray that with God’s guidance we can continue to respond to the needs of families here and across the world.
“Why not join us in this valuable work?”
