Palm Sunday procession packs Skipton at start of Holy Week

Hordes of people gathered in Skipton to watch or take part in the town’s Palm Sunday Procession, as they also did in many communities across our diocese.

The procession started at the bottom of the High Street at 10am on Sunday before moving to Holy Trinity Church.

The gates of the church were ceremonially barred by its curate Rev Doug Rice-Bowen and then opened in recognition of Jesus entering the Gates of Jerusalem Temple on Palm Sunday.

It was a joint event to mark the start of Holy Week organised by the churches of Holy Trinity Skipton, Christ Church Skipton, St Mary's Carleton, St Mary's Embsay and St Augustine Draughton, and moved to the beat of marching drummers. Images courtesy of Brian Stott.
