Ripon Cathedral launches public consultation

The Chapter of Ripon Cathedral, the cathedral’s governing body, has opened a public consultation on its proposed new Constitution and Statutes – the documents which describe how the cathedral is run.

The new documents have been drafted following changes in the way cathedrals are governed.

As a result of the Cathedrals Measure 2021, passed by the General Synod of the Church of England, every English cathedral must make changes to conform to charity law as well as Church of England regulations.

The changes include revised provisions for the governance, management, property and financial affairs of English cathedrals.

As part of the process, the new drafts of the Constitution and Statutes must be made available for public consultation – a mark of the part cathedrals play in public life as well as the life of the church.

The public consultation at Ripon is open now and closes on Thursday, March 30, 2023.
