St Mary’s Barnsley is celebrating 200 years since it was rebuilt in its current form, and as part of the festivities they are hosting a ‘Weddings Through the Ages’ festival.
The festival will run from Friday, March 18 until Thursday, March 24, and will explore the history of marriage at the church over the centuries.
The display will include wedding dresses, veils and more to tell the stories of those people for whom St Mary’s has been an important place in their lives.
This includes the story of Margaret Critchley (pictured), baptised at the church in 1917, married at the church on Boxing Day 1940, with her funeral taken at the church after her death in 2019, after she passed away aged 102, meaning she had more than a century involved with the church.
