Beautiful flowers and protecting God’s creation were celebrated at a recent flower festival.
The Wild Coverdale Flower Festival was well supported with well over 200 people attending the various events, which included sustainable flower demonstrations.
The locally grown, seasonal flowers and foliage, free from harmful floral foam, created a thoughtfully composed backdrop to the event.
The Jervaulx Group of Churches, covering Middleham with Coverdale, East Witton & Thornton Steward, have been made ambassadors for Sustainable Church Flowers.
Sustainable Church Flowers (SCF) is a movement within the Church of England founded in 2019 in Harpley, Worcestershire, looking to encourage flower decoration in churches and Churchyards that is sustainable, with an emphasis on no floral foam and local and seasonal flowers.

The Revd Jeff Payne, Co-Rector, said: “It was wonderful to see the church transformed by such beautiful flowers and foliage, not to mention the smell!
“I would encourage all parishes to consider becoming Sustainable Church Flower parishes.
“It's a quick environmental win!”
