One of our churches in the Ripon area has been able to show off its new facilities recently by hosting some 150 ultra marathon runners.
The parish of Fewston and Blubberhouses have been investing in their church, with new under-pew heaters, an organ renovation, repaired windows and roof, a new kitchenette, and new toilets.
These came in handy when the church acted as checkpoint for a Punk Panthers ultramarathon recently, offering a place for runners taking part in a 38-mile-long race from Otley to Pateley Bridge and back again to replenish themselves before continuing on.
Fiona Schneider, Licensed Lay Minister, said: “Where are the people you would love to greet in your town church, on Sunday morning?
“It is likely that they are enjoying physical recreation.
“This maybe the local football field but many others will be out walking, cycling, and running.
“Our parish embraces community events to share our resources and show the love of Jesus to many with our hospitality.”
