Video for parishes encourages generous giving

Generous giving is the subject of a new film produced for parishes in the Diocese of Leeds.

“Money and cash is a pretty sensitive subject for most of us, but it’s because we do so much for so many that we need a bit more generous giving.” That’s the message of the film featuring the Bishop’s Adviser for Church Growth, Robin Gamble.

Produced for the Stewardship Team’s Giving Days currently taking place across the diocese, St Richard’s Church in Seacroft also features. This is a church with a congregation committed to service of the community and who are embarking on a journey of renewal and resurrection.

The Revd Anne Russell,  Team Rector at Seacroft, explains it’s very much a message of “give what you can and take what you need.” With the generosity and kindness of their church-goers and wider community St Richard’s are able to run foodbanks and valuable youth projects with what they have.

Robin goes on to explain that he was always good at generous giving, but the trouble was, all his giving was to himself. When he discovered the joy and the freedom of generous giving it was transformational.

Robin said, “We give generously because we want to build the kingdom and when we give generously, we ourselves, live the kingdom.”

Becky Nicholson, Lead Stewardship Officer, said, “This film goes to the very heart of what our generosity message is about.

“When we give generously, we see shoots of growth flourish in our own communities. Not only that, our collective generosity with one another through giving to Parish Share means we are able to have a Christian presence in every community including in Seacroft.

“Generosity is found here in abundance, but our extra help clearly supports their journey of renewal and resurrection.

“I really encourage churches to share the film widely and for any extra support with generous giving, please contact me.”
